UNESCO has been a key player in the recognition, management, restoration, conservation and preservation of World Heritage Sites -WHS, across the world. Though much more Indian heritage deserves the WHS status, this project aims at articles with regard to the WHS that have been recognized in India.

This is a full time exhaustible project, full time indicating that the project shall be in operation for as long as it takes, whereas exhaustible indicating that all articles that are to be created have been enlisted at once, and no more space is yielded for further additions into this project.

Also, the below mentioned list of articles that are yet to be created are not ought to remain in the original chronology or pattern forever in the Create Articles section, as whenever any article is created on any title, it is deleted from the Create Articles section and added to the section of Enhance Articles.

World Heritage in India 

In India, a total of 40 World Heritage Sites exist as of August 2021, ranking the country number 6 worldwide in the most UNESCO World Heritage Sites across the world. Among the 40 - 32 are cultural, 7 are natural and 1 mixed. In the year 1983 - Ajanta Caves, Agra fort, Ellora Caves and Taj Mahal were the first World Heritage sites to be inscribed in India by UNESCO.
