Introduction
Magadha, was one among various ancient kingdoms, in larger Indic canvas of Mahajanpada's, in 6th Century BCE. Over the next 3 Centuries, it pursued a policy of imperial expansion, which reached its climax during the Mauryan emperor's during which almost the whole of the Indian subcontinent, was unified under one imperial rule. After the demise of Maurya, it went through a process of transformation, during which the imperial unity gave way to various regional powers. During this period, the throne of Magadha went through various local as well as foreign hands such as Shunga's, Kanva's, Kushana's, etc. Another era of imperial domination came for Magadha when Gupta's reunited larger parts of the Indian subcontinent in the 4-5th Centuries CE. Even after the demise of Gupta's, Magadha was based on various successive petty principalities and kingdoms like Later Gupta's. During this Millenium of Magadhan influence, Indian culture and civilization attained new heights in its various dimensions.
