Theme - The House of Mewar

  • Maharana Kumbha Singh
    Maharana
    Kumbha
Maharana Kumbha ruled Mewar for 35 years (ascribed as the Golden period of Mewar). He is credited to have never lost any battle, including wars on two fronts, subduing the Sultans of Malwa and Gujarat. No Delhi Sultan dared to advance towards Mewar during his reign. Over and above his stellar victories on the battlefields, he was an able administrator, scholar, poet, musician, builder and a devout patron of art, literature and music.
  • The First Battle of Dewair was fought between Mewar under Maharana Pratap and the Mughals. The Mewari forces brutally destroyed the Mughals and avenged the damages of Haldighati. The outcome frightened the Mughals to such an extent that they fled Kumbhalgarh without even a fight.
  • Maharana Raj Singh
    Maharana
    Raj Singh
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a letter of protest to Aurangzeb over the reimposition of Jaziya on Hindus, challenged the Emperor to first levy the tax on his contemporary - Maharana Raj Singh, who he respectfully attributed as the head of the Hindus.
  • Saving themselves from the iconoclasm of Aurangzeb, the priest of the Shrinathji Temple at Vrindavan sought refuge in Rajasthan. When no ruler dared to call upon wrath of the Mughal Emperor, Maharana Raj Singh stood up and is believed to have declared that Aurangzeb cannot even touch the idols of Shrinath ji until he trampled over the bodies of his 1 lakh Mewar warriors. Under the protection of the Maharana, the idol of Shrinathji was installed at Nathdwara in the Aravallis.
