Document : Project

This document explains about creating and managing a project on Historical India.

On Historical India, a Project is a collaborative enterprise that is carefully planned to achieve a particular aim. Projects can be created by any registered user on Historical India. Project feature on site is important since it tries to achieve central goal of the website, i.e. collaborative editing efforts. Users join a project according to their taste in Indian History and get involved in community discussion.

Aim of a project depends upon innovative ideas of it's creators and managers. For eg. one can use a project for creating particular list of articles (See this Project : Priority Articles) or to arrange regular meetups which will improve productivity of editors (See this Project : Meetups - June 2021) or to just have a healthy discussion about some historical topics. Users are free to decide the aim of project as long as it aligns with Indian history.

Dealing With Project

Creating A Project

Creating a project is as simple as opening create project page, filling out the information listed and clicking on Create Project button. Once the project is created, you will be redirected to projet edior page where you can set the primary goal of your project and add basic information about the project. Ofcourse, these things can be changed later on as well.

IMP : You should click on Join Project button as soon as you create a project. That will add the project into your personal watchlist and will be accessible to you easily.

Project Features

Project Page

Project page is created by default when a project is created. It is prepended by 'Project : ' string. For eg. Project : My New Project. Project page generally contains information about goals of project, upcoming tasks, tasks completed etc. It also has join project, invite users and leave project functionality. It contains project members list at the bottom of the page.

Discussion Page

By default, there is a discussion page link on every project page which redirects user to discussion page if exists. Otherwise it redirects user to page where a discussion page can be created easily just by clicking on Create Discussion button.

Discussion page for a project is important since it provides the platform for users to discuss their ideas and goals before adding it to project page where it will be publically visible to everyone. Discussion page can also be helpful in case of dispute. Most of the times disputes are resolved by deliberation which are meant to happen on discussion page.  For more info on discussion pages, see Document : Discussion Pages

Joining & Leaving A Project

By default, Join Project button is present on a project page. The project page is added to your watchlist after you join the project. Also you can invite other users to join the project after you join it yourself. It should be noted that you can contribute to the project even without joining it.

You can leave the joined project just by clicking on Leave Project button on project page. Leaving a project will remove project page from you watchlist. Also, you will not be able to invite other users to join project once you leave the project.

Inviting Users

User can invite other users to a project after joining it himself/herself. There is a limit on number of invitations that can be sent by a user in 24 hours span. Currently limit is very loose but it might be tightened in the future according to user behaviour.
