One of the three principal genealogies from the southern part of India, Pandya dynasty was an of yore Tamil state in south India founded by Maravarman Sundara I,  situated on bank of river vaigai with capital Madurai. Pandyan kingdom was a primeval tamil state in south India. Pandyas were one of the three foremost ancient tamil kingdoms, Chola and chera being the other two. They ruled from pre-historic times upto 15th century. 


Pandyas have been notably renowned for their literature and trade. Apart from the well known sangam literature, They also had vast trade links with South east Asian maritime empires of Srivijaya and their successors. They superintendent the pearl fisheries along the south Indian coast, between South Indian coast, between Srilanka and India and formed one of most magnificent pears known in the ancient world.


There have been various kings who ruled the empire, but the most prominent was under Jatavarman Sundara Pandyan as it was this time Pandyas plunged into a golden age.
